When Will the Disregard for the Will of the People End?
The Nation's Capital. A city of more than 600,000 residents who pay taxes both on a Federal and "State" level.
D.C. residents are number one per capita in taxes paid to support the government of the United States, but do not have a vote on the House floor. So the residents of D.C. pay taxes, yet have no say in when or how those tax dollars are spent. The the District is the only capital city in the developed world that does not have full representation in the national government.
How can you take the Federal Tax dollars of an entire city and not allow them to have any representation as to where or how those tax dollars are spent? The residents of Washington, D.C. are getting a raw deal and have been for decades. Residents are treated as second class citizens who are only good for their tax dollars. All other citizens of this country enjoy equal representation in the House and Senate, with one exception: the citizens of Washington, D.C. Taxation without representation equates to extortion or at the very least, tyranny.
There have been several efforts to rectify this situation with several proposals offered to Congress, but none of the proposals can gain any traction with the Republicans showing no interest in assisting a majority Democrat-leaning constituency.
There seems to be a level of nonchalant disinterest or just plain ignorance of the situation D.C. residents have been plagued by those outside of the D.C. Metropolitan area.
As if all of this wasn't enough, a new barrage has been fired at D.C. residents by Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz. This is yet another slap in the face of the residents of the District of Columbia: GOP House chair: Maybe we should cut off part of D.C. and send it back to Maryland
I strongly urge residents as well as friends in other jurisdictions to familiarize yourself and join the movement to bring true democracy to the residents of the District of Columbia.

DC Vote envisions a fairer America where residents of the nation’s capital are first class citizens. This will be evidenced by the District of Columbia gaining the freedom to control its own budget, pass its own laws without congressional interference, and having its citizens enjoy equal representation in the US House of Representatives and the US Senate.
