Credit Card Theft/Skimmers

Posted: 2/21/17

Are you aware of the many ways hackers are stealing your data on a daily basis?  Please take the time to learn what's happening all over the country.
Here are just a few common examples:

  1. Fast Food Restaurants (employees stealing credit card information/skimming).  When you hand them your card to pay, they actually swipe twice.

  2. Gas Pump Skimmers (internal & external).  Skimmers are devices placed on the pump and even inside the pump to steal your information.  [Watch this gas pump skimmer video]

  3. Store POS (Point of sale) skimmers.  Skimmers work the same way the gas pump or ATM skimmers do.  They appear to be legitimate, but they are designed to steal your information. [Skimmer on store POS machine]

  4. Store POS (Point of sale). Malware has been installed on POS machines and captures the credit card information of every sale. [such as what happened in the Target store breach]

Check out this Nightline | ABC News report about some of these activities: ABC Nightline Skimmer Report

Please take this information seriously and protect yourself going forward.  Pay attention to what happens after you hand over your credit card.  Walk to the cashier’s window or  go inside when stopping to get gas.  Credit card information is stolen all day, everyday.  Don’t be the next victim.
